It pays to keep up with what’s happening in the world of teamwear as it can make a huge difference to your players’ performance and purpose, both on and off the pitch.

This year (2026) teamwear is all about bold personalisation, comfort and choosing the latest high performance, eco-friendly fabrics designed to enhance player and club results.

TAG Sportswear, a leading bespoke teamwear supplier based in the Midlands, gives their take on why custom teamwear is important and what is set to feature in kit designs this year.

Personalisation, performance and purpose

Playing at any level, in any sport, is all about confidence and that starts with understanding how you can improve and boost your players’ self-belief and purpose by kitting them out with the latest teamwear.

If you look closely at the most recent research, there is a definite link confirming teamwear not only serves as a functional and physical purpose for an athlete, but it also helps them to have a significant psychological and personal advantage when it comes to performance and achievement within their sport.

The fundamental ideology behind professional teamwear is that it leads to a better performance

When a team player walks out onto the field or track, they need to believe they (and their team) can do the job! That’s why football, rugby, hockey and other sports clubs, whether they play in a national, county or town league, are attracted to personalised, high performance teamwear for their players.

The overriding belief is that this can help turn what starts with enthusiasm for sport into an actual competitive advantage when playing – and winning! Sport as Self-Expression: How Custom Gear Boosts Your Confidence — Athleisure Mag™ | Athleisure Culture

So, where is the market going?

Advanced fabric technologies

As in previous years, material technologies will continue to develop.

Improved capabilities in producing fabrics now allow features like moisture control, temperature regulation and odour resistance to be designed into material fibres and, therefore, into this season’s training and sports garments.

In 2026, the overriding trend in personalised sportswear will be toward use of smarter, hi-tec fabrics that respond to an athlete’s need for temperature and airflow during active play.

Things like antimicrobial treatments will be popular too. These increase the life of a garment. Designers will also continue to produce four-way stretch sports tops and shorts that provide a perfect ‘ergonomic’ fit, whilst increasing flexibility and performance.

Bold personalisation

All teamwear is set to be unapologetically bold.

Teamwear designs will continue to reflect a club’s core values, appropriate sponsorship and its personality, with more opting to experiment with striking visuals, oversized typography and dramatic colours.

This has been the general trend over the past few years but its set to get even bolder!

Extreme comfort will dominate

Comfort is no longer an option with teamwear. This is (and will continue to be) the primary driver of textile innovation in the years ahead.

A good example of this is the placement of mesh panels used in ‘high sweat’ zones allowing the body to breathe and feel fresher and less fatigued for longer.

Eco-friendly fabrics

Modern athletes, sports clubs and players want to be wearing and buying something that is good for them, but also for the environment.

This year clubs will be looking for teamwear that optimises performance, but also for garments that are made from materials like recycled polymers, use low-impact dyeing processes and are produced by manufacturers that share their interest in protecting the environment.

TAG Sportswear prefers to use recycled yarns to create high-performance fabrics such as recycled polyester made from plastic bottles. This material is designed to be moisture-wicking and, therefore, perfect for intense sport and training. They also promote sustainability through longevity by promising that designs will never be discontinued. That means a club doesn’t need to replace a perfectly good kit just because their design is no longer available.
