Delivering Bespoke Rugby Teamwear for One of the UK’s Largest & Oldest Community Clubs

In 2017, Burton Rugby Football Club (Burton RFC) approached TAG Sportswear with a challenge familiar to many large community rugby clubs: how to supply high‑quality, consistent, and reliable bespoke rugby teamwear for a rapidly growing club with more than 600 players and over 20 teams, spanning mini rugby to senior elite squads.
Burton RFC required a made‑to‑order rugby kit solution that could cater for hugely different physical demands, age groups, and budgets — without the delays, discontinued lines, and Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) issues they had repeatedly experienced with other rugby suppliers.
Understanding the Needs of a Modern Rugby Club
Unlike many sports, rugby presents unique challenges when it comes to teamwear:
- Elite adult rugby is highly physical, demanding kit that is tough, durable, robust, yet technically advanced, breathable, lightweight and sweat‑wicking
- Youth and mini rugby requires more forgiving fits that allow for growth and comfort, particularly for touch rugby
- Touring sides demand stylish, durable and practical rugby tour kits and rugby tour stash
- A large club needs consistency of supply year after year, not forced rebrands
Working closely with Burton RFC Team Manager Jono Edwards, TAG Sportswear set out to design a bespoke rugby teamwear range that would work across the entire club — now and in the future.

Creating a Made to Order Rugby Kit System
Designed for Burton RFC’s 1st XV and older age‑group squads, the ELITE range is a fully technical, professional‑level jersey featuring:
Together, TAG and Burton RFC developed a club‑wide rugby range featuring two technical jersey options, each available in two different fits, ensuring every player could perform at their best.
The ELITE Rugby Jersey Range
Designed for Burton RFC’s 1st XV and older age‑group squads, the ELITE range is a fully technical, professional‑level jersey featuring:
- Advanced 4‑way stretch performance fabric
- Silicone gripper for enhanced fit
- Integrated GPS pocket
- Choice of collar styles
- Supplied in:
- PRO FIT – a tight, athletic cut
- REGULAR FIT – preferred by front‑row players and those wanting more room
This range delivers maximum performance for elite rugby while standing up to the physical demands of competitive senior matches.
The CLUB Rugby Jersey Range
The CLUB range is the backbone of Burton RFC’s junior, youth and social sides and is also the club’s most popular rugby tour kit.
Key features include:
- Technically advanced 2‑way stretch lightweight fabric
- Highly durable and robust construction
- Designed to withstand frequent washing
- Supplied in:
- PRO FIT
- REGULAR FIT – ideal for younger players and growing children
The CLUB REGULAR FIT has proven particularly popular, offering excellent value and longevity — reducing the need for frequent kit replacement as players grow.
Both ELITE and CLUB jerseys are available to fit MEN, WOMEN and CHILDREN of all ages and sizes, reinforcing Burton RFC’s inclusive approach.

Solving Long‑Standing Supplier Problems
Before partnering with TAG Sportswear, Burton RFC had cycled through numerous traditional rugby suppliers without renewing long‑term contracts.
Their frustrations included:
- High MOQs preventing small top‑up orders
- Lead times of up to three months
- Constant discontinuation of chosen styles
- Forced rebrands
Since 2017, that has changed completely.
